About The Pittsburgh Project:
The Pittsburgh Project is a nonprofit community development organization with a 25-year track record of developing leaders and serving the city’s most vulnerable residents.  Our year-round staff of 51 operates a progressive series of summer and afterschool programs for 450 urban young people, deploys over 2800 people annually to perform free home repairs for Pittsburgh’s in-need elderly homeowners, and spearheads economic development and job training efforts in our Pittsburgh neighborhood.

Positions:
Our team includes teachers for grades K-5, 6-8, or 9-12, performing arts instructors, visual arts instructors, computer teachers, math specialists, reading specialists, and leadership development teachers.  All positions are hourly, and vary in schedule and pay rate.

Qualifications:

  • a commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ over life and a solid grasp of the Bible
  • a willingness and ability to articulate one’s Christian faith
  • a desire to help children grow academically, socially, and spiritually
  • experience teaching a small group of urban students
  • enjoy working with urban young people in grades K-5, 6-8, or 9-12, depending on the position
  • proficiency in the skills required in the job description
  • a teachable spirit
  • a commitment to working as part of a team with other staff members
  • organizational skills and problem solving skills
  • a commitment to affirming the vision, mission, and goals of The Pittsburgh Project
  • must be at least 18 years old (some positions require older applicants)

Accountability:
All positions work as part of The Pittsburgh Project’s Youth Development team and are supervised by Karen Dreyer, Director of Youth Development, and her staff.
