Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, a great steel and glass Victorian greenhouse, has been inviting visitors to explore the beauty and mysteries of plants since 1893. Set amidst Schenley Park, one of Pittsburgh’s largest green spaces, Phipps stands as a cultural and architectural centerpiece of the city’s Oakland neighborhood. Phipps has become a strong advocate for advanced green building practices, sustainable gardening and a new environmental awareness.
Phipps is seeking a full-time Interpretive Specialist/Environmental Communications to work on a wide variety of projects that will guide and enhance the visitor experience both indoors and outdoors at the Conservatory. Responsibilities will include design, development, implementation and evaluation of onsite communications, interactive tours and interpretive projects, including traditional signage, electronic and digital graphic design, audio-visual, multimedia and other interpretive technology. A thorough understanding of sustainability and the ability to clearly and effectively communicate this subject to our visitors are critical to the position.
The qualified candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and have strong organizational, project planning, collaboration and communication skills. Phipps offers a competitive compensation package, strong benefits and a beautiful, unique atmosphere.
