Position: Director of Community Outreach
Summary
- Plan, develop and implement the Community Outreach objectives in accordance with the Board of Directors and organizational bylaws
- Supervise staff responsible for implementing the Community Outreach Team objectives
- Build the capacity of member community development corporations (CDCs)
- Oversee public relations activities and special events of the organization
Basic Duties
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local elected officials, stakeholders, key community leaders and volunteers
- Train community leaders of non-profit community development corporations on a variety of organizing topics including: member recruitment, facilitation, planning, Roberts Rules of Order, issue analysis, advocacy, and non-profit organizational development
- Provide direction and supervision to the Community Outreach Team Members while also completing annual evaluations with the team
- Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder meetings and workshops
- Act as a conduit in delivering communication/information between various organizations
- Represent organization at community events, resource fairs, etc.
- Plan and coordinate outreach activities in order to build an effective, ongoing, self-sustaining organization that maintains the involvement of grassroots leaders
- Assess the needs and concerns of the community and work with other team members to develop strategies to address these issues
- Plan and execute special events of various sizes
- Maintain the appropriate files and records including maintenance of contact information in the organization’s database
- Develop and manage the Community Outreach Team’s budget as well as other marketing expenses for the organization
- Coordinate with outside consultants and vendors
- Maintain a basic knowledge of Pennsylvania Non-Profit law as well as requirements set forth by the IRS for 501(c)3 organizations
- Assist in preparing grant proposals and progress reports
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Executive Officer
- Prepare written communication pieces such as newsletters, flyers and press releases
- Utilize all types of media outlets to increase awareness of the work that is underway to revitalize and improve the Mon Valley communities
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate a broad range of skills in areas that include: nonprofit organizational management, community building, parliamentary procedure, public speaking, writing, media relations and graphic design.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

- Previous experience executing duties similar to those listed above
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to community-based development, revitalization and preservation
- Ability to build relationships with a variety of audiences from different socioeconomic backgrounds
- Knowledge of non-profit management including tax filings, bylaws, conflict of interest, board insurance and conducting effective meetings
- Demonstrated social and political acumen
- Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations
- Ability to work with a team, yet is self-directed
- Routine ability to work extended hours to attend evening and weekend events
- Must have reliable transportation
- Bachelors degree and/or equivalent professional experience with 5-7 years non-profit management experience
