Overview

The Controller provides a critical component of the Finance Department of Familylinks for the oversight of the finance, accounting and reporting activities of Familylinks.  The Controller will lead the day-to-day finance operations including supervising a team of nine staff members.  In addition, the Controller will work collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer, senior leadership, the Human Resource Department and the Information Technology Department to enhance and better integrate the Finance, HR and IT functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs analysis and interpretation of each of Familylinks cost center financial histories and develops fiscal recommendations in conjunction with the management staff.
  • Create and maintain the internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Develops budgets and financial narratives (RFP’s) to secure new and ongoing funding for Familylinks in conjunction with the management staff.
  • Coordinates and prepares all annual grant and contract renewals with the organization’s numerous funding venues.
  • Develops and coordinates all annual audit schedules in collaboration with the independent accounting firms.
  • Prepares the financial narratives for the internal reporting purposes to the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee along with issue and trend recommendations and any additionally requested reports.
  • Develops specialized budget and expense reporting to the external monitoring systems.
  • Prepares all financial statements and supporting schedules for the internal and regulatory reporting purposes.
  • Analyses significant fluctuations in income and expenses, asset and liability balances and reports the findings and recommendation to the appropriate program manager and departmental director.
  • Ability to educate the program management staff along with the Executive Leadership staff regarding financial and accounting procedures along with exploring how the Finance Department can support the programs.
  • Assist the management and Executive Staff with the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Supervise the financial staff with functional responsibility of accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll and grants administration.
  • Manage, recommend and track the performance and Familylinks invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
  • Participate in all staff development, training and meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of three to five years of experience as a Controller or an equivalent senior accounting/finance management position.
  • Must have three to five years of experience supervising accounting/financial staff.
  • Excellent Excel skills including complex data manipulation and macros.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and  three to five years successful audit results
  • Strong preference for Fundware and/or Financial Edge experience.
  • Experience with government contracts and funding.
  • Ability to obtain Act 33 and Act 34 clearances.
  • Be current with leading trends and practices along with experience with systems implementation.
  • Not-for-profit background experiences preferred, specifically, human and social services
  • Ability to meet deadlines along with attention to details a must.
  • Ability to assemble analysis and disseminate complex financial data.
  • Strong computer skills along with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Self directed, flexible with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel and represent Familylinks at various local and state-wide external meetings.
  • Must be able to work and contribute in a team environment.
  • Presentation skills along with professional behaviors, attitude and appearance.
  • Support the organization’s mission along with sensitivity of cultural and workplace harmony.

Working Conditions

  • Work the hours necessary to complete the work
  • Ability to lift and carry light boxes of files and supplies (less than 10 pounds) on occasion.
