Director of Marketing, Communications and Special Events, Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh, PA

The Marketing, Communications & Special Events Director is responsible marketing ARL’s services to our various constituencies and clients, maximizing the positive visibility of the Animal Rescue League and it’s services, coordinating our public education and advocacy efforts, for planning and implementing our special  events that meet or exceed attendance and revenue goals. Specific responsibilities include:

Marketing

  • Develop and manage the overall marketing plan of the Animal rescue League.
  • Conduct market research as needed; develop strategies based on survey analyses. Provide statistical and demographic information as requested
  • Manage the ARL web site and collaborate with staff and volunteers to update information to be put on the Web site and then update it at least weekly.
  • Create weekly e-blasts to send to constituents, Board Directors, staff and volunteers.
  • Manage and update Animal Rescue League’s Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter).  Create a “Content Calendar” containing material to talk about based on the Animal Rescue League’s schedule of events/happenings.  Blog about lighter topics along the way. 
  • Attend events of the Animal Rescue League to act as a liaison to the media and public.
  • Work with the Development Director to develop and maintain relationships with local business and community leaders to enhance the Animal Rescue League's marketing and public relations efforts.
  • Keep abreast of recent research on marketing techniques; maintain a collection of current resource materials

Communications  Management

  • Oversee the development and production of all materials and publications used to support the Animal Rescue League’s public relations, events and marketing campaigns, including brochures, print ads, posters, signs, electronic media advertising copy, press releases, newsletters, program books, invitations, annual report, website, special promotions other materials as needed to promote understanding and appreciation of the Animal Rescue League.
  • Initiate, coordinate and/or participate in all efforts to publicize and promote the Animal Rescue League's activities, services, mission and events.
  • Work with senior staff to develop and then coordinate our public education and advocacy program.
  • Develop a program for communicating the Animal Rescue League's plans and activities to the media and develop and send regular press releases. Establish positive contacts with local media outlets and convey an image consistent with the agency's policies and objectives. Act as spokesperson, when appropriate, for the Animal Rescue League and provide public information upon request.
  • Work with the Director of Development to enhance public understanding of and support for the unique role of the Animal Rescue League in the community.
  • Attend civic and cultural events in the community; represent the Animal Rescue League at public events as requested.
  • Work with the executive team and Board Directors to position the Animal Rescue League as the premier agency for animal adoptions and animal information

Special Event Coordination

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, promote and facilitate all special events.
  • Develop event budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Schedule and maintain communication with speakers, vendors, participants, staff, committee members and other volunteers.
  • Develop and monitor event timelines.
  • Review and analyze each event.
  • Prepare a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events.
  • Attend meetings and represent the agency with service groups and committees.
  • Acts as prime source for promotion of activities and special events
  • Maintain and distribute current listings of upcoming events within and outside the Animal Rescue League for distribution to employees, volunteers, Board Directors, news media, local and state government.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director and Executive Director
