  Dewey & Kaye Interim Process

Dewey & Kaye Interim Management Services focuses on minimizing the risk and capturing all of the opportunities that an organizational transition offers through the placement of a highly qualified interim leader.

Interim Selection and Training
Dewey & Kaye carefully screens, interviews and selects interim executives that are exceptionally skilled managers with significant nonprofit experience.  Each interim, regardless of assignment, is expected to temporarily take the helm of an organization, help the board and staff address important systems and capacity issues and lay the groundwork for the next leader's success.
Prior to an interim assignment, individuals selected by Dewey & Kaye after an extensive assessment process, must complete a day long training program.  The training, conducted by the consultants of Dewey & Kaye, focuses on organizational development, conflict resolution, the expectations of an interim leader and case studies.

Interim Placement
A review of the organization in transition is done by the staff of Dewey & Kaye to best determine the time frame and skill base needed for the interim placement.  After consulting with the board of the organization in transition, Dewey & Kaye sets the interim agenda, including a description of responsibilities and expected outcomes.  The interim begins his or her tenure with an agreement that outlines a specific set of objectives. After a month in the position, the interim should have gained additional information on the agency's needs and transition priorities, as well as what is doable in the time allotted. In light of these realities, the board and Dewey & Kaye may reconsider their initial objectives.

Interim Supervision
Prior to placement in a position, the interim and Dewey & Kaye Manager meet to go over in detail the responsibilities and expectations of the assignment.  Interim Managers report directly to Dewey & Kaye.  A weekly phone meeting between Dewey & Kaye and the interim and separately, Dewey & Kaye and Board leadership, is standard with a detailed conversation about the goals, the obstacles and the progress. There is an in-person meeting once a month or more if deemed necessary by Dewey & Kaye.

Interim Roadmap
From the onset to the completion of an interim assignment, Dewey & Kaye manages the process to ensure quality, compliance and satisfaction by the contracting organization.   Interim managers are given a clear set of priorities as dictated by the contracting organization to create a roadmap of success for their tenure.
As situations arise within the organization that differs from the determined roadmap, Dewey & Kaye works with the interim to adjust expectations and ensure that the system is stable.

Interim Management Fees
Dewey & Kaye works with the contracting organization to keep the Interim Management fees within the budgeted amount of the salary and compensation package of the departing executive.
